Progress

When you have a child
On the spectrum you realize how important progress is. Things that others take for granted are zeroed on on, noticed and appreciated.

It’s one of the blessings of having a child with a disability, you pay attention.

Every step is a step in the right direction.

Our kids are life long learners and there is not a time line.

I was always told she will plateu probably by 12. Progress will stop at a certain point.

My girl has her own timeline and her owns rules as many of our kids do.

Alyssa struggles with processing. Receptive language is difficult for her. It is hard to gage how verbal language she actually understands.

She relies on facial expression, body language, tone of voice to help her figure it out. It’s actually pretty amazing how she can assess all of this do it so quickly.

One think for sure is her understanding is growing.

She is still learning which I am so grateful for.

Today when we were leaving the house, I was at the bottom of the driveway and I turned and saw that the door was left open. Yes my Diva will exit without shutting the door 😍 I realize that I also forgot to grab a mask for her.

I said, can you to shut the door. As she turned I said can you grab a mask, you need a mask.

This a big ask for her. Two commands with no visual clues at all.

It’s seems simple but it’s actually complicated for her. She has to process the instructions, execute them and she has no context to rely on.

She did it! She went in got a mask and shut the door on her way out.

Progress is everything!

I am so proud of this girl.

Never give up friends, our kids are more capable then we realize. It just takes them time.
